STUDENT DIES AFTER 162 FROG JUMPS IN OGUN
A boy named Ariyo Monday was reported dead after a teacher allegedly beat him and made him execute 162 frog leaps, causing tension in Ogun State’s Imeko Afon Local Government Area.
The Obafemi Grammar School pupil Ariyo passed away on Friday.
The teacher brought a trash can to Ariyo’s class and warned the students not to smash it, but the deceased humorously responded to the teacher by claiming the dustbin was purchased with the students’ money, according to a video that activist Justadetoun uploaded online.
She explained that the teacher was outraged by his reaction, reported it to the principal, and was given the go-ahead to discipline the dead.
According to Justadetoun, Ariyo was beaten with 164 strokes of the cane before collapsing to the floor.
Ariyo, who was on a drip, was moaning and had trouble speaking from the hospital bed.
Meanwhile, the police spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, who confirmed the incident in the late hours of Friday, said contrary to the report, the deceased was beaten with 24 strokes of the cane and was made to do 162 frog jumps.
Odutola said he died at the Federal Medical Centre in Abeokuta.
She said, “The incident happened on October 15, 2024. The deceased was asked to do 162 frog jumps and was given 24 strokes of the cane. He was rushed to FMC Idi-Aba for medical attention, and he died today [Friday].”
The PRO stated that the cause of death investigation is still ongoing and that the body has been placed at the Ayetoro mortuary for autopsy.
