CALABAR CHAOS: ANGRY YOUTHS LYNCH ARMED ROBBER, SET ANOTHER ABLAZE

Read Time:1 Minute, 42 Second

Two armed robbers who had terrorized the Calabar South LGA in Cross River State’s Atim Edem Rise and Efio Okoho communities were brutally murdered yesterday by irate teenagers.

At the time of filing this article, the suspects’ names were not readily available.

The fact that both lived in the same communities was verified by witnesses.

Reuben Akabom, one of the witnesses, reported that a young man, no older than 35, was apprehended while breaking into a house in the Efio Okoho neighborhood in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Luck ran out for him this time, as the terrorized residents, tired of his persistent robberies, were able to overpower him, according to residents.

“He was dragged to the Efio Okoho junction in front of a private hotel.

“The robber was mercilessly beaten, and they brought condemned tyres, where he was reportedly burnt.”

His burned remains were being removed, most likely to be buried somewhere unknown, when our reporter arrived.

On Saturday, there was another incident on Atim Edem Rise Street, which is close to Ibesikpo Road in Calabar.

It was also claimed that the other suspect was a well-known thief who had a history of robbing and frightening locals.

When the thief was apprehended and subdued, they chopped him with the same machete he had used to loot, according to a youth leader who identified himself as Inyang Ekpenyong.

According to reports, armed robberies have increased recently in the enclaves of Calabar South.

Obong Ete, a landlord on Waddel Lane close to Mbukpa Road who was notorious for robbing his tenants and neighbors on a regular basis, was apprehended and taken before his tenants on Sunday. They were then instructed to alternately beat him as many times as they wanted.

In response, Irene Ugbo, the PRO of the state police command, warned against jungle justice and suggested that all suspects be turned over to the police for appropriate questioning and punishment.
