The Member representing Ohafia South State constituency in the Abia state House of Assembly, Hon. Kalu Mba Nwoke, has been arrested by the police over an alleged attempt to disrupt the local government election in Ohafia council area.

Eyewitnesses told Vanguard that the lawmaker was assaulted by the police and had his phone destroyed as he was taken to an unknown destination.

It was gathered that Policemen, allegedly acting on the orders of the state Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu arrested the lawmaker. The Deputy Governor hails from the Ohafia council as well as the lawmaker.

A Labour Party chieftain from Ohafia council who preferred anonymity, told Vanguard that the Deputy Governor and the lawmaker have been having a running battle over the choice of candidates for the local government election.

Contacted, Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Abia State Command, Maureen Chinaka, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, promised to get back to Vanguard on the situation but was yet to do so, as at the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, there are widespread reports of a lack of election result sheets across the 17 council areas.

Chairmanship candidate of the Labour Party, in the Ukwa West council area, Chief Emeka Adiele, stated that no result sheet was distributed in the area.

On his part, the PDP chairmanship candidate in Ukwa East council, Hon. Ugwumba Adiele, who said he was coasting to victory, alleged that election results were being manipulated against him by a rival political party in the area.
