Rival cult groups clashed in North Bank, a neighbourhood of Makurdi, the capital, killing at least three individuals.

One person was slain in Monday’s re-occurring conflict between the Red and Black cult groups on Tuesday. Two young people who were suspected of belonging to competing cult organisations were reportedly killed last weekend, according to a local source who asked to remain anonymous because he was not permitted to speak to the media about the matter.

Nura Umar, the chairman of North Bank’s Operation Shara vigilante organisation, confirmed the two incidents on Tuesday.

He said, “One person was killed yesterday (Monday) during a clash between Black and Red cult groups around 9:pm

“Last week, the rival cult groups engaged in a violent clash and two people were killed, one of the deceased’s body was taken away, and another one’s head was smashed. We have buried him.

Catherine Anene, the spokesperson for the Benue State Command, denied knowing about the two instances when approached.

She simply said, “I am not aware of the incidents.”
