The first lady,bOluremi Tinubu, has denied that she intends to conduct a national prayer for the many difficulties the nation faces.

A seven-day event called “Seeking the Intervention of God in Nigeria’s Affairs” was to be led by Mrs.

Tinubu and Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Advisor, according to a report. The statement was made last Sunday during a press event in Abuja by Segun Afolorunikan, the Director-General of the National Prayer Forum, according to the report.

The program, which is coordinated with Christian and Muslim religious leaders, aims to seek divine intervention for the nation’s security and socioeconomic problems, according to Afolorunikan.

“Christians will meet at the National Ecumenical Centre for a week of intense prayer, with prayer warriors from various denominations focusing their efforts on the nation’s adversities,” said the convener.

However, in a statement on Saturday issued by her spokesman, Busola Kukoyi, the First Lady said the news that she is organising a national prayer is unfounded and misleading.

Mrs. Tinubu stated that while she is a fervent supporter of prayer and praying for the country, she feels that prayer is an act that needs to be performed voluntarily, diligently, and truly.

The statement read, “This is to clarify and inform the general public that the First Lady of Nigeria, Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, is not organising a national prayer.

“The news circulating on some traditional and social media platforms is unfounded and misleading. Consequently, anyone who might have come across the purported news of a joint national prayer for Nigeria should disregard it as false.

“While the First Lady, a Christian and strong advocate of prayer and praying for Nigeria, believes that prayer is an act that must be done willingly, conscientiously, and sincerely, she also believes that praying for Nigeria is the responsibility of every Nigerian, irrespective of religious belief, political affiliation, tribe, or language.

“Members of the public are advised to verify the authenticity of any news or event involving the First Lady of Nigeria or her Office through official channels. Kindly be advised accordingly.”
