NIGERIAN SOLDIERS, BELLO TURJI-LED BANDITS IN GUN BATTLE AT SABON BIRNI, SOKOTO
The Nigerian Army’s soldiers are fighting bandits under the infamous Bello Turji in a fierce gunfight.
The Sabon Birni region of Sokoto State is said to be the scene of the ongoing conflict between Turji’s forces and Nigerian military.
According to Abdulsalam Suleiman Izuagbe, a public affairs expert and senior consultant, passengers can no longer go from Shinkafi to Sabon Birni on Thursday.
According to Izuagbe: “There is a war going on in Sabon Birni; Bello Turji is facing the Nigerian Army as I talk to you.
“They are exchanging fire in the Sabon Birni area. From Shinkafi to Sabon Birni is no longer safe for anybody to travel, as I’m presently speaking. To think it’s a normal business as usual is missing the point.”
ASP Sanusi Abubakar, the spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command, had not returned calls or texts to his cell phone at the time this report was filed.
