LSMTL COMMENCES VERIFICATION PORTAL OF ITS TEST RESULTS

Conducts Inaugural Training for its Technical Consultants.

In its bid for enhanced knowledge on standardization to ensure qualitative performance in averting buildings collapse across the Lagos metropolis, the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory Agency, has organized a 2- day training workshop for its Technical Consultants.

Speaking at the forum which was a collaboration of Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory Agency with the Association of Consulting Engineers for Nigeria ( ACEN) , themed ā€˜ A deep dive into cutting Edge Evaluation Testing and Reporting Standards for Technical Consultantsā€™, the General Manager of the Agency ; Engr. Olayinka Abdul, said that building collapse was an embarrassment to the level of professionalism exuded by qualified Engineers within the metropolis owing to their years of practice, hence, need for a reviewed reporting methodology of testing building/ construction materials.

She Stated ā€œreporting of materials testing and its methodology calls for earnest review as Lagos State is identified with excellence and consistent collapse to structures mars the impeccability of its teaming professionals , which LSMTL as the bedrock of the built industry need to exert all forms of strategies to curbā€.

While advocating for shared knowledge and fostered goals in stepping- up technical expertise, the General Manager expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Governor; Mr Babajide Sanwo-Oluā€™s magnanimous nature at adopting formidable strategies in stirring up the vision of her Agency on zero tolerance to building collapse.

She enjoined participants to uphold the mandate of the Agency on integrity to work- practice saying ā€œafter this training, you will do things differently. Be committed in your capacity, stop peripheral reporting and mediocrity on your task execution. Review all processes right, for if any mishap occurs there will be sanctionsā€.

Engr. Abdul further disclosed that reports from the Agency will be water marked with seal and codes to curb counterfeiting.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Works; Arch. Odusanya Adebayo Ayodeji, implored Technical Consultants for a collaboration that fosters the mandate of the Agency at ensuring a safe Lagos with commendable standards that effectively curb building collapse.

In his address, the General Manager Public Works Corporation ; Engr. Tokunbo Ajanaku , admonished for decorum in conducting materials test as any form of misplacement could cause mishap to lives and Assets.

He adjured ā€œ the built environment is a beautiful one. Do whatever makes it even more beautiful by exerting your professionalism on integrity, knowledge and creativity as the whole built environment depends on the value of your work ethics. I urge you all, to be passionate and dedicated to quality of work that you doā€.

According to Dr. Kofo Popoola, a guru civil Engineer who facilitated at the forum said that every infrastructure depends on the soil, since it has become a huge problem in most construction process.

In his address, Prof. Ikponmwosa Efe , a facilitating scholar admonished that visual inspection is paramount for enhanced productivity.

He opined ā€œ sad to say that Nigerians do not believe in soil test. Many developers are willing to spend a lot on super structure, but next to nothing on Geotechnical investigation and foundation constructionā€.
