Bompai, Kano, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, told reporters at the command’s headquarters that the arrests were the consequence of a crime-busting plan the command had implemented.
āThe implementation of these strategies has yielded positive results as they led to the crackdown on criminal networks, such as curtailing remnants of thuggery (Daba) activities within Kano Metropolis,
āOther are dismantling of armed robbery syndicates along Jigawa-Kano and Bauchi-Kano borders and foiling kidnapping incidents along Kaduna-Kano and Katsina-Kano borders.
āThese operations conducted resulted in the arrest of a total of 82 suspects and the recovery of firearms, dangerous weapons, illicit drugs, and stolen properties.
āItems recovered from the criminals included one AK-47 rifle and three locally made guns, 13 cutlasses, and 16 knives.
āOthers are: three motorcycles, one tricycle, 50 sachets of diazepam tablets, 42 sachets of tramadol tablets, 24 parcels, 175 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be hemp, and 10 mobile phones,āā he said.
Speaking on behalf of State Commissioner of Police Salman Dogo, Kiyawa said the accomplishments showed the command’s dedication to upholding law and order.
He declared that in order to raise public awareness of security issues, the command will keep bolstering its diverse tactics, which center on community policing and strategic communication.
Other measures included targeted clearance operations and intelligence-led policing, which had successfully broken up criminal networks that were mostly active in the state’s border local government regions.
He praised Governor Abba Yusuf for giving the command 78 patrol cars, which would greatly increase its operational capability and response time in order to provide the state’s citizens with better service.
