PDP CONDEMNS DELAYED DISTRIBUTION OF MATERIALS IN OGUN LG ELECTION

Read Time:1 Minute, 7 Second

Ogun State’s Peoples Democratic Party voiced complaints on Saturday over the delayed delivery of election materials for the local government election and the fact that polling places received two result sheets rather than one.

Due to the late distribution of materials, the party also questioned the election’s legitimacy.

In light of this, the opposition has asked for an extension of the voting period, which was initially set to conclude at 2:00 PM.

At 7:32 am, minutes before the 8am start time, it was reported that election workers were still gathering documents from the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission office in the state capital of Abeokuta.

Waliu Oladipupo, the PDP state agent, voiced concerns about the development in an interview with reporters, highlighting how this anomaly could compromise the validity of the election process.

He noted that the shortcomings will disenfranchise many voters.

Oladipupo said, “Imagine somebody that is going to Ogun Waterside. Do you think they will get to their destination on time, having slated the election for 8:am? I doubt the credibility of the election.

“We want the time to be extended so that voters can vote. Secondly, they should ensure that the results are declared at the polling units.

“From the ward collation centre down to the local government collation centre, they should declare the party that wins.”
