LAGOS GOVT SEEKS RESIDENTS’ COOPERATION ON JUNCTION IMPROVEMENT RoW
The Lagos State Government has called on residents, particularly those in the Ikeja axis, to give their cooperation for the smooth delivery of the Right of Way (RoW) of theĀ improvement works at major junctions within the Toyin/Opebi/Allen and Adebola/ Salvation areas.
Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, made the call on Friday at a stakeholders’ meeting held at the LASPPPA Headquarters, Old Secretariat, Ikeja, which was organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.
Commissioner Olumide, represented by Engr. Oluwole Sotire, Permanent Secretary, Office of Physical Planning, stated that the ongoing Opebi-Odo Iya Alaro link bridge, changes in land use patterns, and population growth were all taken into consideration when implementing the junction improvement projects, which were based on the urban intervention program created from the Model City Plan.
He claimed that the two Ministries were working together to make sure the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda was successful, particularly in terms of the socioeconomic advancement of the areas in question.
In order to promote active participation and the exchange of ideas and suggestions to advance the project, he emphasized the government’s dedication to stakeholder engagement as a channel for candid communication and cooperation between the government and the community.
Hon. Oluwaseun Oshiyemi, the Commissioner for Transportation, emphasized the value of the bottom-up approach in development projects, pointing out that it was crucial for important stakeholders, including government representatives, community leaders, residents, and business owners, to collaborate and coordinate their ideas on crucial projects like the junction improvement works.
He urged cooperation and understanding during the junction improvement projects, particularly while delivering the RoW stage, which may call for the demolition of encroaching structures.
He clarified that the government’s goals were to improve safety and traffic flow at these crucial intersections and guarantee the timely completion of public infrastructure projects.
In his briefing on the project, Mr. Olawale Musa, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, stated that securing the delivery of rights of way and enhancing intersections were crucial elements of urban planning and development.
“By engaging with stakeholders, the government can gather valuable insights and feedback that will help inform the decision-making process and ensure that the needs and concerns of the community are taken into consideration”, he said.
Musa stated that the junction upgrades would supplement the Odo Iya Alaro/Opebi link bridge to boost interconnectivity and ease traffic. Musa made this statement through Engr. Adebayo Osomo, a Director in the Ministry of Transportation.
Speaking as well, Tpl. Daisi Oso, General Manager of the Lagos State Planning and Environmental Management Authority (LASPEMA), asked citizens to work with the government to uphold established rules, such as those governing the use of incidental open spaces.
The axis’s business owners and residents voiced their support for the junction enhancement projects, urging for their prompt completion and reimbursement when necessary. They also called the project a positive development.
