OSUN NNPP CHAIR WARNS GANDUJE: DO NOT TURN SOUTHWEST INTO A WAR ZONE
Dr. Umar Ganduje, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been warned by Dr. Tosin Odeyemi, the chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Osun State, not to incite political unrest in the Southwest with his recent remarks.
After INEC proclaimed Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa the victor of the governorship race, Ganduje said he was confident the APC will win Oyo and Osun states in the upcoming elections while visiting Akure, Ondo State, on Sunday.
Odeyemi denounced Ganduje’s comments in a statement released in Osogbo on Monday, calling them irresponsible and unworthy of an elder statesman, particularly in light of the present economic suffering that Nigerians are going through under the APC-led administration.
Odeyemi claimed that the APC’s suspected use of vote-buying strategies, which he linked to the purposeful deprivation of the masses, would have prevented the party from winning free and fair elections in Ondo.
He said:
“One would have expected Dr. Ganduje to demonstrate better communication skills befitting his position. With the economic challenges Nigerians are facing, who would willingly vote for the APC? Ganduje should not be carried away by what transpired in Ondo State.”
Odeyemi stressed that Osun residents are politically conscious and will not put up with electoral fraud or intimidation, and he asked all political stakeholders to put peace first and respect voters’ decisions.
“Osun people are wise and peace-loving. Each party must allow voters to decide freely. Ganduje must not turn the Southwest into a war zone. Spoken words carry weight, and 2026 must be crisis-free in Osun,” he added.
The NNPP leader also pushed Ganduje to run in his home state, where the NNPP had previously defeated the party by a wide majority, in order to demonstrate the APC’s popularity.
