Former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha has called for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the imprisoned leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, and businessman and socialite Pascal Okechukwu, also known as Cubana Chief Priest, has stated his support for this demand.

Cubana Chief Priest posted a video of Okorocha’s homage to the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah on Instagram on Tuesday. In the video, the former governor called for the Nigerian government to release Kanu as the “best way” to honor Ubah.

According to Cubana Chief Priest, the release of Kanu would foster harmony and peace in the southeast part of Nigeria.

Tagging Senate President Godswill Akpabio in his post, he wrote, “Those pleas from Owelle Ndi Igbo are all we ask for our dear in-law. Let Ohamadike Ndi Igbo, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, come back home soon.”

He went on to say that the Igbo people had suffered as a result of Kanu’s imprisonment, especially with regard to their ability to travel back to their hometowns and the unrest in the Southeast.

“It’s been almost five years now; we still cannot access our hometown. Only his release can restore peace to our region,” he wrote. “We have lost many lives and properties. We need to rebuild the South-East ASAP. Make una help us.”

In his remembrance of Ubah, Okorocha pleaded with Akpabio to speak for the Igbos and begged the government to free Kanu.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide and Kanu’s followers have demanded his freedom on numerous occasions since his arrest and confinement in June 2021.
