A fight between secondary schools in the capital of Kwara State, Ilį»rin, has reportedly left several students hurt.
More than ten kids were reportedly hurt in the altercation that broke out on Monday.
An eyewitness reports that the altercation began at approximately 11:00 am when some students from Government Day Secondary School and Government High School in Adeta got into a brawl because of a prior argument.
āMore than ten students were wounded in the melee that threw the area into pandemonium. The issue started about two weeks ago and climaxed with the present situation suspected to be a reprisal attack,ā the source added.
The growth was ascribed by some to student cultism and battle supremacy.
When contacted, Peter Amogbonjaye, the press secretary for the Ministry of Education, stated that a statement regarding the matter was in the works.
Toun Ejire-Adeyemi (DSP), a police spokeswoman, verified the occurrence and stated that during the police random intervention during the incident, some of the suspects were detained in batches.
The reason behind the altercation is still being investigated, she said.
