BALTHAZAR ENGONGA ACQUITTED BY EQUATORIAL GUINEA SUPREME COURT OF ALL CHARGES
Due to insufficient evidence, Baltasar Ebang Engonga, popularly known as “Bello,” was cleared of all accusations by the Supreme Court of Equatorial Guinea. President Teodoro Obiang’s great-nephemeral nephew Engonga was at the center of a high-profile case that garnered international attention due to claims of financial impropriety and the publication of compromising videos.
The court verified that consenting adults were included in around 400 explicit films. Engonga’s innocence was further established by medical testing that showed he did not spread any STDs to anyone involved.
In an unexpected turn of events, the case resulted in disclosures from married couples involved in the controversy. Engonga received public thanks from a number of men who said the leaked video revealed previously unspoken facets of their relationships. Some people got divorced as a result, which gave an already complicated case a dramatic twist.
After being accused of embezzling public funds and transferring them to offshore accounts, Engonga, the former chief of the National Financial Investigation Agency, was arrested on October 25, 2024. Even though he hasn’t responded to these financial charges, his arrest resulted in his imprisonment at Malabo’s notorious Black Beach jail, which is known for mistreating political prisoners.
