FOUR WORKERS INJURED IN ABUJA BUILDING COLLAPSE
A section of the popular Samsung building, located at Banex Junction, Aminu Kano Crescent, Wuse 2, Abuja, collapsed during construction on Tuesday.
In a statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs for the FCT Emergency Management Department, Nkechi Isa, the incident occurred when the penthouse segment of the three-storey building collapsed during casting.
While no lives were lost in the incident, the department reported that four out of the ten workers on site sustained injuries and were taken to Wuse General Hospital for treatment.
It is worth noting that the popular Samsung store was completely destroyed in a fire incident just over a year ago.
In response to the collapse, the Acting Director-General of the FCT FEMD, Abdulrahman Mohammed, urged developers to comply with building codes and ensure safety standards are met on construction sites.
“However, four out of the ten construction workers on site sustained minor injuries. The injured workers have been taken to Wuse General Hospital for treatment.
“In response, the Acting Director-General of the FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD), Engr Abdulrahman Mohammed, appealed to developers to adhere to the building code and ensure on-site safety at all times.”
The FEMD director also urged residents to use the 112 emergency toll-free number in the event of a disaster.
