Two people, a male and a girl, were saved by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority from a single accident that happened at China Town by Conoil, Industrial Estate, Alapere, Ogudu, Lagos.

The only collision involved a Venza car registered under the license plate APP 04 HE.

The incident was caused by a brake failure when the vehicle was moving at a high speed, according to Adebayo Taofiq, the director of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department at LASTMA, who made this announcement on Monday.

“Preliminary investigations reveal that the accident was caused by brake failure while the vehicle was in motion at high speed. Losing control, the vehicle veered off the road and collided with a culvert. The crash resulted in two serious casualties, a male and a female.”

He stated that due to the immediate response of LASTMA officials and the public, the casualties were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

“Swift response from LASTMA officials, with the support of well-meaning bystanders, facilitated the timely rescue of the victims. Both individuals were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are receiving urgent medical attention.”

Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the general manager of LASTMA, wishes the crash victims well and emphasizes the value of routine auto maintenance, particularly examining the brakes.

“The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed his concern for the injured and wished them a speedy recovery. He used the opportunity to emphasise the importance of regular vehicle maintenance, particularly ensuring the functionality of braking systems, and urged all motorists to comply with government-prescribed speed limits.”

“As we navigate our roads daily, safety must be our priority. I appeal to all road users to carry out regular checks on their vehicles, especially the braking system, and strictly adhere to speed limits to prevent avoidable accidents,” Bakare-Oki stated.

A 40-foot loaded container had fallen on a Toyota Camry with the license plate LSR 293 HJ at Mile 2 on the way to Apapa, and LASTMA had rescued the driver.
