American rapper Eminem’s mother, Debbie Nelson, died on Monday night in St. Joseph, Missouri, at the age of 69.

Dennis Dennehy, Eminem’s spokesperson, confirmed her passing on Tuesday.

For a number of years, Nelson had been fighting lung cancer.

Marshall Mathers, better known as Eminem, has not made any public remarks regarding his mother’s death.

His music, however, has provided ample documentation of their complicated and frequently turbulent relationship.

In songs like “My Name Is,” “Headlights,” and “Cleanin’ Out My Closet,” Eminem has referenced their rocky relationship and his childhood experiences.

Nelson had previously spoken out about her relationship with Eminem, including in her 2008 memoir “My Son Marshall, My Son Eminem.”

She discussed Eminem’s early years and their relationship in the book, arguing that Eminem still loved her in spite of their conflicts.

Among the difficulties in Nelson’s life were his marriage to Bruce Mathers when he was fifteen and their subsequent divorce as a result of physical violence.

She briefly resided in Metro Detroit before spending her last years in St. Joseph, Missouri.
