Read Time:59 Second

Yobe State saw tragedy Tuesday evening when at least 12 people lost their lives in a terrible traffic accident.

The collision happened at approximately 10:00 p.m. on the Baimari-Geidam route, more precisely near Km 20 Chelluri hamlet.

Corps Commander Livinus Yilzoom, Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps’ (FRSC) Yobe State Sector Command, stated that a stationary Howo truck registered MAG831ZR, which belonged to DAN Nene Construction Company, and a Sharon minibus registered BAU124YF were involved in the collision.

The twelve people inside were completely burned when the minibus collided with the vehicle and caught fire.

According to preliminary investigations, the truck’s blocking of the road was the direct cause of the collision, while the Sharon minibus driver’s excessive speed and payload were the indirect causes.

Due to the current foggy Harmattan weather and poor visibility, Corps Commander Yilzoom advised drivers to stay away from nighttime driving.

Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed has expressed regret for the loss of life, and the FRSC has sent condolences to the families of the deceased.

According to him, this unfortunate event is a clear reminder of how important road safety and careful driving are.
