NEWS: NO DEATH, INJURY RECORDED IN UI HOSTEL FIRE INCIDENT – OFFICIALS CONFIRM
The University of Ibadan (UI) and Oyo State fire authorities have stated that there were no fatalities or injuries reported after a fire incident that occurred early Thursday morning.
A portion of the institution’s Queens Hall was completely destroyed by fire in the early hours of Thursday, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Mrs. Joke Akinpelu, UI’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), confirmed the event to NAN, stating that the fire only damaged the hall warden’s and his secretary’s offices.
Akinpelu promised that everything had been brought under control and that no lives had been lost.
“Measures have also been put in place to forestall future occurrences,” she added.
A student, who asked for anonymity, said the fire must have started around 1:30 a.m. at a block in Queens Hall.
“The cause of the fire is still unknown, but men of the fire service came early to manage the situation,” he said.
Speaking also, the General Manager of Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Mr Yemi Akinyinka, said the agency received a distress call about the incident at exactly 1:43 a.m. on Thursday.
“The call we received was through one Miss Helen Ibikunle, and we immediately deployed our personnel.
“On getting to the place, it was discovered that two offices on the upper floor of Queens Hall were affected.
“Property worth billions of Naira was saved from the incident,” he said.
The general manager also confirmed that no casualty was recorded in the incident.
He added that the fire was completely extinguished in collaboration with the University of Ibadan Fire Service.
