VIDEO: POLICE ELIMINATE THREE SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS, RESCUE LAWYER, NIECE IN AKWA IBOM
The Akwa Ibom State police command killed three suspected kidnappers while rescuing a lawyer, Barrister Emmanuel Ubengama and his niece, who were kidnapped along the Abak-Ikot Abasi Road in Akwa Ibom State.
Disclosing this on Thursday, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer in the state (PPRO), Assistant Superintendent (ASP) Timfon John, noted that Barr. Emmanuel Ubengama, a well-known lawyer and director at the Ministry of Justice in Abak Local Government Area (LGA), Akwa Ibom, was rescued, along with his niece, who was kidnapped with him on Wednesday, December 4.
It was gathered that the criminals had set an ambush for the pair along the Abak-Ikot Abasi Road, attacking them as they were returning to Abak LGA.
Family sources from the rescued director’s Ikot Imo Village in Midim, as well as his home in Abak, revealed that the incident was immediately reported to the Abak Division Police.
This prompted a swift response from the Commissioner of Police (CP), Joseph Eribo, who quickly deployed tactical operatives to search the area.
The tactical team’s rescue operation led them to Ikot Ukpong village, the kidnappers hideout in the Afahaobong area of Abak LGA, where a shootout took place.
The exchange resulted in the deaths of three suspects, while others fled the scene.
After the gunfight, police operatives raided the hideout and found the victims bound inside a specially constructed soak-away pit, from which they were quickly rescued.
The PPRO, also stated that efforts were underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice.
She reiterated CP Eribo’s, stance of zero tolerance for crime, especially with the holiday season approaching.
The PPRO said, “The Command has warned criminal elements that nowhere in Akwa Ibom is safe for them.”
She then urged the public to cooperate and work closely with security agencies by sharing intelligence to help curb criminal activities in their communities.
