BREAKING: OLUYEDE ASSUMES OFFICE AS 24TH COAS
As Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede took over as the 24th Chief of Army Staff (COAS), the Nigerian Army ceremoniously lowered and raised the command flag at Army Headquarters on Monday.
Oluyede was appointed by President Bola Tinubu on October 30 in an acting capacity after his predecessor, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, passed away, according to a previous report.
On November 1, Gen. Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), presented him with the office’s insignia in a unique way in accordance with the Armed Forces Act.
Following confirmation of his appointment by the Senate and House of Representatives, the command flag was ceremoniously lowered and raised to mark the start of his term.
Prior to his assignment, Oluyede was stationed in Jaji, Kaduna, as the 56th Commander of the Nigerian Army’s prestigious Infantry Corps.
Oluyede, 56, and Lagbaja, 39, were classmates at the Nigeria Defence Academy’s (NDA) 39th Regular Course.
He became a major general in September 2020 after being commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1992, with effect from 1987.
