CRIME: POLICE ARREST TWO SUSPECTED CULTISTS, RESCUE 2 RAPE VICTIMS IN ANAMBRA

Two people suspected of belonging to a cult organisation were arrested after police officers from the anti-cultism team in Enugu Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, searched a notorious black spot in Umunaga Village, Awka South.

The suspects were identified by Tochukwu Ikenga, the State Police Public Relations Officer, as Ezenwa Chinedu, age 22, from Umuneri Village, and Okechukwu Chinwuko, age 27, from Umunaga Village.

One pump-action gun, four live cartridges, a cutlass, criminal charms, and what appeared to be hard drugs were among the incriminating things found on the defendants.

Ikenga affirmed that two female victims who were reportedly sexually assaulted by the perpetrators were also saved by the police. The suspects are being questioned at the moment.

In a different operation, police officers at the Igbo-Ukwu Divisional Police Headquarters found a white Peugeot J5 Boxer bus (registered number: AKL 896 XB), a large metal cutter, a roller, pipes, an iron bar, a screwdriver, a black canvas shoe, and a vandalised Lister electricity generator. According to reports, the individuals, who were characterised as economic saboteurs, were trying to take the Lister generator that was connected to the MTN mast across from Saint Martin’s Catholic Church in Umudege, Igboukwu. The offenders left the area when they saw the cops.

Efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects. The police have urged local residents to provide useful information that could assist in capturing the criminals.
