Dr. Bolu Ogunyemi has been congratulated on his election as the President of the Canadian Medical Association by Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM).
Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the Director of Media, Public Relations, and Protocols, sent out a congratulations statement in which Dabiri-Erewa called the victory a historic milestone for the first Black person to hold such a post in 158 years.
The head of NiDCOM emphasized that those who have persevered and remained committed have never failed; on the contrary, they have achieved great success.
While pleading for fellow Diasporas to excel in whatever they do, she asked Ogunyemi to continue the good work and bring greater honor to the country.
After several days of voting, Dr. Bolu Ogunyemi, a dermatologist from Nigeria who practices in St. John’s, Newfoundland, won the poll.
With this win, he will represent the CMA in Canada’s government, media, provincial and territorial medical associations, and other relevant groups.
In May 2025, Ogunyemi will take office as president-elect, subject to the CMA General Council’s ratification.
