KOGI OBTAINS 15 HECTARES LAND FOR ULTRA-MODERN MARKET
The Kogi State Government has purchased 15 hectares of land to replace the outdated Lokoja International Market with a state-of-the-art marketplace.
The land, which is situated along Hassan Katsina Road in Zone 8 of Lokoja, was formally turned over to the contractor SABC on Monday by the Director General’s representative, the Permanent Secretary of the Bureau of Land and Urban Development, Bayegusi Taiwo, and the three works commissioners.
During the handover ceremony on Monday, the state commissioner for commerce and industry advised the contractor against doing a subpar work that falls short of the state government’s standards.
“This is a project after the heart of His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, the state Governor, we have also done due diligence and found your company worthy to do the job to the specifications as spelt out in the contract documents handed over to you.”
He said that all legal barriers that would prevent the land from operating smoothly while development is underway have been removed, allowing the land to be legally bought.
“Every single person, individual or corporate organisation that has an interest in the land has been settled and adequately compensated so nobody will disturb workers on site while construction work is going on.”
The consultant, Abdulrazaq Adio, responded by pledging that the company would complete the project on time and asking the supervising officials to cooperate so that his company could complete the project on time and in compliance with the specifications.
He pledged not to let the state government down and praised them for doing their research and determining that the SABC was qualified to complete the project.
The ever-busy Lokoja/Abuja route, which acts as a gateway to the Eastern, Southern, and Western regions of the nation, passes by the Lokoja International Marke at Nataco Junction.
It’s possible that the state government’s decision to relocate the market was influenced by the many accidents that were reported in that area.
