Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, has asked the recently appointed chiefs in the state to use their current status as traditional title holders to promote peace, unity, and advancement in Ibadanland as the Olubadan of Ibadanland’s authorized representatives.

According to a statement released on Sunday in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, by his chief press secretary, Gbenga Ayoade, the Olubadan made the charge when he awarded honorary chieftaincy titles to a number of prominent Ibadan figures and their spouses during a ceremony held on Saturday at the Olubadan’s palace in Oke Aremo, Ibadan.

The distinguished individuals, he added, were Sulaiman Ajewole as Ibadanland’s Aare and Yeye Atunluse, while Abisoye Ayoyimika and Olusola Fagade were given the titles of Aare and Yeye Asojuoba, respectively.

Oba Olakulehin said that the title holders had contributed significantly to the ancient city’s prosperity, progress, and togetherness.

Through Ibadanland’s Ekerin Balogun, High Chief Akeem Adewoyin, the monarch stated that the beneficiaries of the titles had Ibadanland’s best interests in mind. As a result, Olubadan and his advisory council felt it was important to acknowledge and value them appropriately.

He said, “The conferment of the titles on you is in recognition of your assistance to the progress of Ibadanland which I believe will spur you to do more.

“Use your present position as traditional title holders to foster unity, peace and progress in Ibadanland as the accredited representatives of Olubadan of Ibadanland.”

His Royal Majesties, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, the former governor of the state, the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, Oba Eddy Oyewole, Oba Olubunmi Dada, Oba Abiodun Kola-Daisi, the Ashipa Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Adebayo Akande, and Oba Adebayo Akande were present at the event.

The minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Arts, Hannatu Musa Musawa, also attended the event.
