
OLUFEMI OLUYEDE ASSUMES COMMAND OF NIGERIAN ARMY
On Monday, the Nigerian Army ceremoniously hoisted and lowered the command flag at Army Headquarters as Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede took over as the 24th Chief of Army Staff.
Following the passing of his predecessor, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, on October 30, Oluyede was named by President Bola Tinubu in an acting role, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.
In accordance with the Armed Forces Act, the insignia of office was presented to him in an uncommon ceremony on November 1st by Gen. Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defense Staff.
He was confirmed by the Senate and House of Representatives, and the command flag, which marks the start of his tenure, was ceremoniously lowered and raised.

Oluyede was the 56th Commander of the Nigerian Army’s elite Infantry Corps, stationed at Jaji, Kaduna, prior to his appointment.
Oluyede, 56, and Lagbaja, 39, joined the Nigerian Defense Academy’s 39th Regular Course as classmates.
In September 2020, he was promoted to Major General after being commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1992, with effect from 1987.
