GHANA’S PRESIDENT-ELECT MAHAMA VISITS TINUBU IN ABUJA
Ghana’s president-elect John Mahama has visited President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Mahama’s visit came weeks after he won Ghana’s presidential election, earning him a return to the seat of power eight years after leading the West African nation.
Olusegun Dada, Tinubu’s Special Assistant On Social Media, said the newly-elected Ghanaian president visited his Nigerian counterpart on Monday.
“The President-Elect of Ghana, H.E John Dramani Mahama paid a courtesy visit to President Tinubu at his residence, Presidential Villa, State House Yesterday,” Dada wrote on his X handle alongside photos of the two.
He, however, did not give further details of the meeting. About ten days ago, Tinubu had sent a congratulatory message to Mahama following his electoral victory.
Tinubu congratulated the people of Ghana for the “successful elections,” urged “all of us in the region [West Africa] to learn from this good democratic practice and prioritise our countries’ national unity to ensure political stability of the region that this manner of peaceful transition recalls the culture of democracies not only in West Africa but also in the entire African continent”.
Mahama had ruled Ghana between 2012 and 2016. In 2024, he defeated Mahamudu Bawumia, the country’s incumbent vice president, after securing 56.55 percent of the vote cast. The VP scored 41.6 percent and has since conceded defeat to his opponent.
