PRESIDENT TINUBU NOT RESTING, COMMITTED TO GROWTH OF NIGERIA, SAYS AIDE, KHADIJAT OMOTAYO KAREEM
President Bola Tinubu is not resting in his resolve to ensure Nigeria’s progress, according to Khadijat Omotayo Kareem, his personal assistant on constituency affairs, who made this statement on Monday.
This was stated by Khadijat during a town hall meeting with “Critical Stakeholders” in Lagos State that was hosted on the Lagos State Television property. In numerous other constituencies across the nation, she had conducted similar gatherings.
According to her, the purpose of the gathering was to give stakeholders nationwide a forum to discuss issues and come up with solutions before reporting back to the president.
Khadijat said the President understands the importance of building infrastructure in Lagos and other parts of the country as an important springboard for development in the country, particularly Lagos as the commercial centre of Nigeria while strongly expressing the Tinubu’s commitment to completing all ongoing federal projects in Lagos State.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is committed to addressing challenges facing Nigeria and Lagos State in particular.
“He promised to support projects that will enhance the quality of Lagosians as well as meet the needs of our constituencies,” she said.
She added: “The President is not resting because he wants to bring renewed hope to Nigerians.”
Khadijat gave stakeholders his word that all citizens would receive what is rightfully theirs and that the president would be informed of their grievances.
Funmi Sesi, the chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress’ Lagos chapter, stated that the purpose of the stakeholders’ gathering was to foster a link between the people and the government.
Regarding matters pertaining to Lagos and the South West, Sesi stated that the Federal Government ought to provide Lagos State special status.
She pointed out that Lagos State has budgetary difficulties in providing public facilities because it is home to Nigerians from all over the nation.
She instructed the personal assistant to advise President Tinubu to start a large-scale housing project in the southwest, construct more specialized hospitals in Lagos, turn over federal government property that has been abandoned to the state government, set up a food bank in Lagos, invest in South West agriculture, and upgrade Lagos’ transportation system.
The Presidential Aide was alerted to certain government policies that require additional refinement by Gbenga Ekundayo, President of the Trade Union Congress, TUC, Lagos chapter.
He urged the President to’slow down’ his economic measures, pointing out that some of them have reduced Nigerians’ purchasing power.
“The President should expedite actions on the Renewed Hope Housing Scheme. He should try and win the youth to his side using sports. The President should also look into the lifestyle of political appointees, which is sending the wrong signal to Nigerians,” Ekundayo said.
On her part, the Iyaloja of Computer Village, Ikeja, Bisola Azeez, who represented the Iyaloja-General, Folasade Tinubu-Ojo lamented the lack of access to loans by traders.
“Our challenge as traders is having access to loans to augment our working capital. The real people that need the loan don’t have access to federal government loans because of too many requirements. The federal government should fashion out means traders can get loans
An activist and founder, Coalition of Oodua Self-Determination Group, Rasaq Olokooba said the President should take quick action on the formation of state police.
“Our farmers can no longer go to farm because our farms are no longer secured. The security of Yoruba land is germane. There should also be special status for Lagos State because Lagos has the highest number of residents,” he said.
Other respondents voiced concerns about the behavior of political appointees who move away from their communities after taking government.
For their constituents’ advantage, they pushed the president to force politicians to remain in their districts.
