JUST IN: BOMB EXPLOSION KILLS CHILD, INJURES FOUR IN NIGER
Suspected criminals set a bomb on the ground, and it exploded, killing one youngster and amputating four others who were reportedly playing near it.
While the other four children are still undergoing treatment at the IBB Specialist Hospital Minna, it was discovered that the infant had already been buried in accordance with Islamic customs.
The children discovered the device on the ground and proceeded to play with it on Thursday in the Bassa hamlet in the Shiroro Local Government Area.
The infant was instantly killed when the bomb detonated, and the others were hurt.
According to a source, the device went off as the victims were on their way to the property.
Three of the victims lost their legs and are receiving treatment at the IBB Specialist Hospital, according to Ahmed Almustapha, a Bassa community member who spoke about the bombing.
Three of the victims, he claimed, were his sister’s children and siblings. This is the second explosion that has happened in Bassa this month. One person was killed in the initial blast two weeks ago while travelling to a farm, he said.
He urged the federal and Niger State governments to support them so they could go back to farming.
The Commissioner for Transport, Hadiza Kuta, who spoke to newsmen on Thursday, confirmed the bomb explosion and disclosed that one person died in the explosion while four other injured children had been rushed to the hospital.
“It was very unfortunate. One person died and has been buried. Four others who were injured have been taken to the IBB Specialist Hospital for treatment,” she said.
The spokesman of the Niger State police command, Wasiu Abiodun, when contacted, said he would reach out to confirm the explosion.
