UPDATE: POLICE DETAIN PRINCIPAL OVER STAMPEDE AT IBADAN CHILDREN’S CARNIVAL

Mr. Abdullahi Fasasi, the principal of Islamic High School in Bashorun, Ibadan, has been taken into custody by men from the Oyo State Police Command.

According to information obtained by Vanguard, Fasasi was invited by the police on Wednesday night and has been in custody ever since in relation to the stampede that took place at the school.

According to a principal’s relative, Fasasi accepted the invitation from the police at approximately 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

The principal was arrested upon arrival, according to the family who requested anonymity.

He went on to say that Fasasi is being detained in the Iyaganku region’s Criminal Investigation Department, or CID.

“The principal of the school, Mr Abdullahi Fasasi, has been detained by the police. He was invited around 4:00 p.m. yesterday, and he honoured the invitation.”

“He has been detained since then. He has not been released,” he said.

According to information released by the state police headquarters, the police have asked popular Ibadan-based radio owner Oriyomi Hamzat and Naomi Silekunola, the estranged wife of Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ile-Ife, to be questioned.

However, as of the time this report was filed, the two had not yet been seen by the police, according to Police Public Relations Officer Adewale Osifeso, who stated, “We have not yet received them for questioning.” As events develop, the public will receive thorough briefings,” he stated.

Recall that on Wednesday, at Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan, a children’s funfair sponsored by Silekunola, a stampede resulted in the deaths of numerous children.
