CUSTOMS TO AUCTION SEIZED PETROL AT N400 PER LITRE
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced plans to auction 15,325 litres of seized Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, at ₦400 per litre to help ease transportation challenges during the festive season.
Hussein Ejibunu, National Coordinator of the service’s Operation Whirlwind, made this announcement on Saturday during a press briefing at the Customs Training College in Ikeja, Lagos.
Ejibunu revealed that the seized petrol, valued at ₦27.5 million, was confiscated during operations conducted in Lagos and Ogun states. He stated that Adewale Adeniyi, Comptroller-General of Customs, has authorized the auction, pricing the fuel at ₦10,000 per 25-litre container.
The coordinator further explained that all legal and procedural requirements, including a court condemnation order, have been finalized by the office of the legal adviser to facilitate the auction process.
“This operation, which began on May 27, 2024, has delivered positive results,” Ejibunu said. “The Comptroller-General has directed the operatives to sustain this momentum until the activities of economic saboteurs are completely eradicated in the country.”
He added, “In line with this directive, the CGC has approved the auctioning of the seized petrol to the public at a rate of ₦10,000 per 25 litres. This measure aims to alleviate transportation difficulties during the festive period.”
