LEICESTER 0-2 MAN CITY: SAVINHO, HAALAND END CITY’S FIVE-GAME WINLESS STREAK
Pep Guardiola marked his 500th game as Manchester City manager with a hard fought 2-0 victory over Leicester City, thanks to goals from Savinho and Haaland.
Manchester City climbed back into the top five with a much-needed victory, having managed just one win in their previous nine Premier League outings.
Meanwhile, Leicester City remain in the relegation zone, suffering their fourth consecutive defeat.
Savinho’s early opener, his first Premier League goal, settled City’s nerves but their performance in the first half was far from dominant.
Leicester came close to equalizing before halftime. Jamie Vardy’s penalty appeal was dismissed due to an offside call after a collision with Stefan Ortega, while James Justin’s header struck the post just before the break.
The Foxes continued to press after the restart, with Vardy narrowly missing from close range.
However, Erling Haaland doubled City’s lead with a towering header from Savinho’s cross on the counterattack with 15 minutes remaining, marking his first goal in nearly a month.
It was a vital win for Pep Guardiola’s side, but their performance still fell short of the high standards that have defined the team over the past several years.
