In a dignified ceremony held at the Police College in Ikeja, Lagos, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) bid farewell to three top officers as they officially retired from service.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Abiodun Sylvester Alabi, along with Assistant Inspector Generals (AIGs) Joshua Ayodeji Ogundele and Olanrewaju Stephen Olaosebikan, marked the end of their distinguished careers in the Force.
The event, which took place on Tuesday, was a celebration of the trio’s years of dedicated service to the nation. Speaking at the occasion, DIG Abiodun Alabi expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve humanity throughout his career.
“I’ve always believed that in my life, I need to serve humanity. In the course of my career, I’ve had the privilege of meeting people daily. Beyond that, I have developed a deep love for this uniform, which represents authority and integrity,” Alabi said.
Reflecting on his years of service, Alabi credited his success to the support of his subordinates and the importance of leading by example. “An officer’s success is rooted in exemplary leadership, where subordinates look up to you and respect your guidance,” he explained.
As he transitions into the next phase of his life, Alabi expressed his eagerness to continue contributing to his community with the same enthusiasm and vigor that characterized his policing career. He also urged his colleagues to remain committed to their duties, ensuring they uphold the ethical standards and the rule of law.
“I encourage every officer to work ethically and within the law, no matter where they serve,” Alabi emphasized.
The ceremony was attended by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, who paid tribute to his retiring colleagues.
In his remarks, Egbetokun praised the trio for their exceptional achievements, noting that rising to the ranks of AIG and DIG is a monumental accomplishment that speaks to their dedication and resilience.
“It is a testament to hard work, commitment, and perseverance,” Egbetokun remarked. “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to DIG Abiodun Alabi, AIG Joshua Ayodeji Ogundele, and AIG Olanrewaju Stephen Olaosebikan for their remarkable careers.”
Egbetokun further commended Alabi for his visionary leadership during his final assignment as the DIG of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (Force CID), noting that the insights and contributions of Alabi and his colleagues would be deeply missed within the Force’s management team.
