TINUBU GRIEVES LOSS OF FALLEN SOLDIERS, COMMENDS MILITARY ACTION IN BORNO ATTACK
President Bola Tinubu has expressed his condolences to the military and the families of the six soldiers who were killed in the attack on January 4, 2025.
The devastating terrorist attack occurred at the Nigerian Army base in Sabon Gida, located in Damboa, Borno State.
In a statement released on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised the courage and selflessness of the soldiers who lost their lives.
“Their sacrifice in defending our nation will forever be honoured and remembered,” he said, underscoring the nation’s indebtedness to those who paid the ultimate price for its security.
The president also praised the Nigerian Armed Forces for their swift and decisive response to the attack.
Highlighting the air component’s effective retaliatory strikes, he stated, “This resolute action by the Army demonstrates the capability and readiness of our military to confront and defeat threats to our nation’s security.”
Tinubu claims that many terrorists were successfully neutralized by the targeted airstrikes, which also damaged their assets as they were trying to escape.
The President promised steadfast support for the armed forces and reiterated his administration’s commitment to combating terrorism and banditry, while acknowledging the difficulties the military faces.
“Your sacrifices and dedication do not go unnoticed, and we stand firmly behind you in this ongoing fight to eliminate these threats,” he added.
President Tinubu has called for a comprehensive investigation to determine the facts underlying the attack.
He emphasized that in order to stop a recurrence, lessons must be learned.
He further called on the military to step up its operations, especially in the Northwest, where bandits are still threatening the lives and homes of defenseless peasants.
The president also urged Nigerians, especially the media, to support the military’s initiatives to bring stability and peace back to the country.
“We must remain united in our resolve to support our armed forces as they work tirelessly to protect our people and secure our nation,” he said.
Six soldiers were killed in what was described as a dawn assault on the Sabon Gida army post, but the Nigerian Armed Forces fiercely retaliated, demonstrating their resolve to uphold national security in the face of changing threats.
