BENIN-OMOTOSHO LINE TRIPPING, NOT GRID COLLAPSE
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has clarified that there was no grid collapse today, contrary to misinformation circulating in the media.
At approximately 13:41 hours, the Osogbo–Ihovbor line and subsequently the Benin–Omotosho line tripped, affecting power supply to the Lagos area alone.
To provide context, total grid generation stood at 4,335.63 MW as of 13:00 hours, just before the incident. Following the tripping, generation dropped to 2,573.23 MW, which clearly indicates that a grid collapse did not occur.
The tripping impacted power plants at Egbin, Olorunsogo, Omotosho, Geregu, and Paras. However, all have been restored except the Benin–Omotosho 330kV line, which is currently undergoing restoration.
TCN remains committed to building a reliable transmission network despite existing challenges and emphasizes the importance of sharing accurate and verifiable information to avoid misleading the public.
