Nollywood actress and box office queen, Funke Akindele, has been left astonished and deeply moved by the outpouring of love from her fans and well-wishers.
In a post on her Instagram, the filmmaker shared that she had surpassed her previous achievement, with Everybody Loves Jenifa becoming the highest-grossing film of all time in West Africa, earning 1.6 billion.
Visibly emotional, Funke expressed that she was at a loss for words, as she conveyed her heartfelt gratitude to her millions of fans and supporters, attributing her success to God.

Funke Akindele’s status as Africa’s box office Queen is well-established. Last January, she made history by becoming the first Nigerian filmmaker to earn over a billion at the cinemas, with her 2023 film A Tr!be Called Judah grossing more than N1.4 billion. This achievement came as no surprise, given Funke’s reputation as one of Nollywood’s most dedicated women. Over the last three years, her films A Tr!be Called Judah, Battle On Buka Street, and Omo Ghetto: The Saga have become the highest-grossing Nollywood movies of all time.
To kick off the New Year, the former wife of JJ Skillz celebrated herself by posting a captivating video where she admired her own beauty. She proudly stated that she was “fearfully and wonderfully made,” encouraging her fans to celebrate themselves and their accomplishments.
Funke also opened up about the difficult times she faced before achieving fame. She shared a video of herself working energetically on the set of her record-breaking film, A Tr!be Called Judah, reflecting on her journey. She described herself as a living example of the power of self-belief, acknowledging the challenges she encountered but emphasizing how those experiences taught her to rise above and inspire others.
Recently, Funke had a disagreement with a Twitter user who commented on her work ethic. The user mentioned that they are inspired by the award-winning filmmaker and that whenever they feel the need to take a break, they remind themselves that Funke keeps working, motivating them to continue hustling. Funke disagreed, clarifying that she does indeed take time to rest properly.
