HEAVY RAINFALL, FLOODING FORCE SOUTH AFRICA TO SHUT DOWN BORDER WITH BOTSWANA
The south african border management authority has temporarily shut down a major border crossing with botswana due to severe rainfall and flooding.
The grobler’s bridge crossing in northern south africa, which is crucial for trade, particularly for miners from the copperbelt region between zambia and the democratic republic of congo shipping cargo to the port of durban, is affected.
The authority said in a statement that “following consultations with our Botswana counterparts and thorough deliberation by the Port Management Committee, it has been decided that the temporary suspension of operations is necessary to prioritise safety.’’
The organization advised truck drivers and passengers to choose alternate routes.
Last weekend, there was a lot of rain in the northern Limpopo region of South Africa, which is connected to Botswana by this crossing.
