On Wednesday, protesting students from Moshood Abiola Polytechnic in Abeokuta, Ogun State, attacked the convoy of Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele.

The incident occurred as Salako-Oyedele was en route to the 35 Artillery Brigade Alamala, Abeokuta, to represent Governor Dapo Abiodun at a reception for the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebrations.

The students damaged several security vehicles in the convoy, and some of the deputy governor’s security personnel were injured while attempting to restore order.

Kayode Akinmade, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, confirmed the attack in a statement issued from Abeokuta. He revealed that the protesting students, armed with sticks and other harmful objects, attacked the convoy despite the efforts of security personnel to calm them down.

“Immediately the students realised it was the deputy governor, they became even more restive and rushed to attack her convoy with intention of demobilising it, despite her security operatives as well as other police officers persuasion to stay calm and allow the convoy pass,” Akinmade said.

He went on to say that before leaving for the event she was supposed to attend, the deputy governor had to immediately make a diversion to her lodging so that the students who were protesting may pass without incident.

According to Akinmade, the students obstructed traffic by blocking the road.
