CRIME: POLICE ARREST FOUR ARMOURED CABLE THIEVES IN GOMBE

The Gombe State Police Command on Friday paraded four suspects in connection with a case of theft of armoured cables from a community transformer in Hayin Misau quarters.

The suspects, Abdulkadir Abdullahi, 25, Abdulmalik Hassan aka Gambo, 25, Nafiu Babayo, 28, and Abubakar Maigari, 32, all from Hayin Kwari Misau and Tudun Wada quarters, were arrested on Thursday.

According to Gombe State Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Buhari Abdullahi,

“We received information from Abubakar Sulaiman of Hayin Kwari Misau quarters that a group of boys were sighted with armoured cable suspected to be stolen around Hayin Kwari Misau quarters.”

Abdullahi noted that a Divisional Police Officer led a patrol team to the scene, where the four suspects were arrested in connection with the case, adding that the suspects were found with 20 meters of 300mm armoured cable and 20 meters of 500mm armoured cable.

“The suspects confessed to stealing the armoured cables from Gandu quarters transformer 1 and 2,” Abdullahi said. “We have visited the scene of the crime, and the case is currently under investigation. The suspects will be charged to court for possible prosecution.”

The police are urging anyone with information about the crime to come forward. “We are committed to ensuring that justice is served in this case, and we will do everything in our power to bring the perpetrators to justice,” Abdullahi said.

He noted that the arrest of the four suspects was a significant breakthrough in the case, saying, “The police are working to recover any other stolen items. The Gombe State Police Command is also warning that it will not tolerate any form of criminal activity in the state, and will do everything in its power to protect the lives and property of citizens.”
