
DEATH TOLL RISES TO 98, 69 INJURED, 20 SHOPS BURNT IN TRAGIC NIGER TANKER EXPLOSION
An update on the sad tanker explosion that happened in Diko, Niger State, has been given by Abdullahi Baba-Arah, Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA).
As of 12 PM on January 20, 2025, 69 people had been injured and 98 people had died.
Additionally, 20 stores were totally destroyed by the explosion, resulting in large losses for local company owners.
Baba-Arah called the incident a grave catastrophe that has left the state in mourning in a statement.
He affirmed that rescue efforts are still in progress, with first responders putting in endless hours to recover the corpses of the deceased and make sure the injured receive proper medical care.
“We are deeply saddened by this unfortunate incident. The state government and NSEMA are committed to supporting the victims and ensuring that those injured get the care they need”.
