7 KILLED, 11 INJURED IN YOBE MARKET ROBBERY
The Yobe State Police Command has announced the arrest of a suspected bandit kingpin in Ngalda, Fika Local Government Area.
The arrest follows a robbery attack allegedly orchestrated by the kingpin at Ngalda Market on Monday, which left seven dead and 11 injured.
In a statement issued in Damaturu on Tuesday, the command’s Spokesman, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed that a locally made pistol and three cartridges were seized during the arrest.
“On January 20, 2025, at approximately 2100hrs, a group of six armed robbers attacked three shops at Ngalda Market.
“The incident resulted in seven fatalities and eleven injuries. The robbers made off with approximately N16,500,000,” Abdulkarim said.
The spokesman reported that angry youths in the area rallied together and neutralized three of the attackers, while three others fled with injuries.
He added that the victims and bodies were transported to the General Hospital in Fika for medical treatment and autopsy.
Abdulkarim stated that the state’s Commissioner of Police, Garba Ahmed, had ordered a prompt investigation into the incident and urged the public to remain calm.
“He tasked personnel to arrest fleeing syndicate members and urged the public to assist the command with credible information,” the spokesman said.
