AKTH DENIES ALLEGATIONS OF UNAUTHORIZED WOMB REMOVAL
The Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital has denied claims circulating on social media that its medical staff removed a patient’s womb without her consent in 2017.
The allegation, reportedly made by the patient during a radio program in Kaduna, has caused public outrage.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the hospital’s Chief Medical Director, Dr. Abdurrahman Sheshe, called the accusations “baseless and damaging” to the hospital’s reputation.
Sheshe clarified that the patient had undergone life-saving surgery in 2012 due to complications during pregnancy and that proper consent was obtained prior to the procedure.
“The allegations are unfounded and do not reflect the hospital’s standards of care. The surgery was conducted to save the patient’s life, and all protocols, including obtaining informed consent, were followed,” Sheshe stated.
In a move to ensure transparency, the hospital has forwarded the case details to the Federal Ministry of Health and other relevant agencies.
“We remain committed to upholding transparency and will fully cooperate with relevant authorities to ensure the truth prevails,” the management said.
