The Lagos State Task Force says it will prosecute a Lagos-based driver, Dauda Bello, who was arrested for causing bodily injuries to an Ogun-based woman and attempting to flee the scene.

It was learnt from a statement by the spokesperson for the task force, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, on Wednesday, that the incident occurred on Tuesday.

Abdulraheem noted that the victim, a resident of Ogun State,  was however given immediate medical attention.

He said, “The Lagos State Task Force has apprehended a hit-and-run driver, identified as Dauda Bello, a resident of Adebayo Street, Oshodi, for reckless driving. The incident, which occurred yesterday afternoon, left the victim, Oluwole Bukola, a resident of Ibafo, Ogun State, severely injured.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the accident was caused by speeding and reckless driving on the part of the driver. Swift intervention by officers of the Lagos State Task Force ensured that the victim received immediate medical attention, while the driver was promptly arrested.”

Reacting to the incident, the chairman of the task force, Adetayo Akerele, urged residents of the state to always observe safety precautions while on the highway.

Akerele, who spoke through Abdulraheem, stated that the suspect would be prosecuted according to the state’s law.

“I urge all road users to exercise caution and be considerate of others while driving. Driving is not a race to a destination but a responsibility that requires patience and focus at all times,” he said.

“The suspect is currently in the custody of the agency and will charged in court under the law of the state.”

It was reported that on Wednesday a hit-and-run driver reportedly killed one person while leaving another injured after colliding with a motorcycle along the Benin-Sagamu Expressway the previous day.

Our correspondent learnt from a traffic update by the Commandant General of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Seni Ogunyemi, that the accidents occurred opposite a paediatric hospital located at Ososa along the expressway in the early hours of Tuesday.

According to the update, the impact of the collision led to the death of a yet-to-be-identified passenger while the motorcyclist sustained a high degree of injury.
