JUST IN: APPEAL COURT UPHOLDS DEATH SENTENCE FOR HOTEL OWNER IN OAU STUDENT’S MURDER
After Ramon Adedoyin, a well-known hotelier, was found guilty of the murder of Timothy Adegoke, a former master’s student at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, the Court of Appeal in Akure, Ondo State, upheld his death sentence.
The appellate court upheld the Osun State High Court’s decision to execute Adedoyin in its decision on Thursday.
On October 29, 2024, the Court of Appeal had already reserved its decision.
The judgement read in parts, “The judgment of the High Court of Osun State stands. Adedoyin’s appeal is dismissed in part. The Court of Appeal held that Adedoyin was properly convicted and sentenced to death.”
However, the court also quashed the orders for the forfeiture of Hilton Hotel and the educational scholarship for Adegoke’s children, which had been part of the original verdict.
“Order of forfeiture of Hilton Hotel quashed and set aside. Order of education scholarship to children of Timothy Adegoke by Adedoyin and others quashed and set aside,” the ruling further noted.
Adegoke’s body was discovered in November 2021 at Adedoyin’s Hilton Honours Hotel, where he (the deceased) had lodged.
