COMMISSIONER CALLS FOR SYNERGY IN TEACHING CONTENTS/WAEC CURRICULUM

The Honourable Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education in Lagos State, Mr Jamiu Tolani Ali-Balogun has called on Principals and School Administrators make effort in synergizing school curriculum and teaching contents to conform with WAEC and NECO standards for improved performance of students in external examinations.

He made this call during a working visit to the Education District II, where he met with the Tutor General/Permanent Secretary, Mrs Anike Adekanye, Principals of the one Hundred and Thirteen secondary schools comprising of Somolu, Kosofe and Ikorodu zones as well as Directors from the Office of Education Quality Assurance in the District.

He stated further that this was necessary to help teachers design functional teaching contents which allows students to understand what is expected of them during examinations.

 

He stressed the need for eradication of mass promotion in schools, noting that there is a need for every student to discover their strengths, abilities and capabilities and allow for informed decisions on further advancements in their career path, mostly in the area of vocational training and gainful skills acquisition.

He also urged Principals and teachers to be proactive in the discharge of their assignments and make the progress of their students a priority, to justify the huge investment of Governor Babajide Sanwoolu in the education sector.

 

” You will all agree with me that Lagos State is incomparable to any other state in the federation in terms of investment in infrastructure, prompt payment of salaries and staff welfare”.

 

He stressed the need for Principals to make concerted efforts in improving the performances of their teachers through guidance, counseling and motivation to get the best out of them.

 

Responding, the Tutor General/Permanent Secretary, Mrs Anike Adekanye assured the Commissioner of improved performance of the teachers in Education District II and a better result in the forthcoming examinations. She further appreciated the Commissioner for taking out time to visit the District and always ensuring better welfare for the teaching and non teaching staff in Lagos State.

 

In her words, “In Education District II, we are trying our best and we will not rest on our oars to make sure that we get a much better result in the forthcoming examinations. We appreciate all you have been doing for us and I assure you that we will not disappoint you”.

 

She extended her profound gratitude to the Governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu and his Deputy, Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hazmat for their commitment to the development of education in the state.
