GRID COLLAPSE: NMDPRA COMMENCES ROLL-OUT OF GAS LICENSE DISTRIBUTION TO OFFTAKERS
In response to the national grid’s frequent outages, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has started awarding gas licenses to eligible industry participants.
Several regions of the nation have experienced hours of complete darkness as a result of the grid, which has only experienced one breakdown this year following more than ten in 2024.
The move is in accordance with President Bola Tinubu’s directive to guarantee that all power producing assets receive the gas required for a robust growth of the current national distribution grid system, according to a statement released Monday by NMDPRA’s media unit and signed by Jemilah Adama.
“The authority has, however, given a note of warning to all off takers to ensure the steady supply of gas to the generation companies or have their license revoked as no act of sabotage will be tolerated,” the statement added.
