LAGOS STATE GOVT TO HARNESS POTENTIALS OF WATERWAYS FOR ECONOMIC GROWTH
The Managing Director of Lagos State Ferry Services (LAGFERRY), Hon. Abdoulbaq Ladi Balogun, has assured that the Lagos State Government will continue to maximize the potential of the Lagos waterways by promoting the sustainable use of ocean resources to drive economic growth, enhance water tourism, improve livelihoods, and boost the state’s revenue. He emphasized that the state aims to fully tap into the blue ocean economy, which is valued at US $1.5 trillion globally.
The Managing Director gave this assurance during his agency’s annual waterways event tagged: “Ignite Lagos 2.0: Water Steeze Edition” held over the weekend at the Five Cowries Terminal Falomo Ikoyi. “This event is being held to encourage more people to explore Lagos’ waterways, boost waterway transportation and tourism, and provide an opportunity to showcase Lagos’ aquatic resources and cultural heritage”, he said.
Balogun further stated that hosting the event ensures an economic boost for the state through the generation of revenue and stimulation of local businesses such as catering, entertainment, and decorations.
In his words, “Unique venue settings often enhance social interaction and create a conducive atmosphere for business or personal connections ensuring networking opportunities for attendees. With LAGFERRY’s emphasis on safety and well-trained personnel, guests can enjoy peace of mind while on board. We are here to combine leisure with functionality, offering Lagosians a fresh way to celebrate while fostering a deeper appreciation for the city’s aquatic resources”.
The event, which took place aboard the Agency’s barge, MF Adimu Orisha, featured a lively journey from the Five Cowries Terminal in Ikoyi to the Ikoyi Link Bridge. The occasion was filled with music, dance, and opportunities for networking.
