The Lagos State government has encouraged property owners and developers to take advantage of its free planning information service to avoid unnecessary difficulties when seeking planning approvals.

This was revealed on Monday in Alausa by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, during a weekly briefing with senior management staff of the Ministry.

The Commissioner pointed out that rapid urbanization and population growth have led to physical planning challenges, including housing shortages and planning violations, as property owners and developers sometimes try to exploit these gaps without properly consulting the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development before purchasing land.

“However,it is disturbing to see people have their planning proposals turned down by the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA) simply because of the inappropriateness of the proposed uses and similar planning requirements, which would have been resolved by making initial recourse to our planning information service”, he said.

He emphasized that the Lagos State Government, in line with its vision of making Lagos a 21st-century economy as outlined in the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda, has made significant investments in Operative Development Plans that designate appropriate land uses and approval orders for various areas in the state, fostering organized and sustainable development across Lagos.

“In tandem with the above, the government has also established the planning information service, obtainable free of charge either at the Ministry or LASPPPA. All a developer needs to do is to write and request for the service, which will aid the decision to purchase land, ” he said.

He added that the planning information service would eliminate uncertainty and help property owners and developers act with confidence, as it provides clear details about the land, including its status, permissible uses, and the maximum allowable building heights.

He urged all Lagosians to follow planning regulations and support the development agenda of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration for the overall well-being of the state’s residents.
