OBASA ABSENT DURING PLENARY AS MERANDA, OTHER LAWMAKERS DISPLAY UNITED FRONT

Despite maintaining that he was still the speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly after being impeached, Mudashiru Obasa did not attend plenary on Monday.

This came after it was reported that the Assembly had increased security at the facility by ordering its officials to show legitimate identification cards in order to enter the grounds going forward.

As Meranda formally took office as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly on Monday, there was also a significant police presence surrounding the Assembly’s grounds.

Meranda is presiding over the plenary for the third time since Obasa was removed; the former speaker was not present at the previous two sessions.

Apart from Obasa, the other 39 lawmakers—including the current Speaker, Mojisola Meranda—were spotted congregating on the assembly’s grounds for a group photo during Monday’s plenary.

The purpose of the picture is to dispel rumours that the house is now split after Obasa broke his silence on his impeachment.

Over the weekend, the troubled former speaker maintained his position as the Lagos Assembly’s speaker.

He maintained that due process was not followed in his impeachment.

Meranda is anticipated to designate chairmen to lead standing committees that would supervise the operations of Lagos State’s ministries, departments, and agencies today.
