Read Time:1 Minute, 57 Second

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is poised to commission another set of infrastructure projects for Lagosians, with the official opening of the Old Ojo (Phase 1) Road in Oriade LCDA, Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area, scheduled for Tuesday.

Additionally, three other roads— Irede, Navy Town, and Mumuni Adio (Buba Marwa) Roads— all located in the Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area, will also be commissioned.

These projects are set to be inaugurated on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.

The formal handover of these roads underscores Governor Sanwo-Olu’s dedication to advancing the Transportation Pillar of his administration’s THEMES+ Agenda, recognizing roads as a vital infrastructure that will bolster economic activities.

The Irede, Navy Town, Mumuni Adio (Buba Marwa), and Old Ojo (Phase 1) Roads provide essential links to both the Lagos Blue Line Rail along the Lagos Badagry Expressway and the water transport component of the state’s multi-modal transportation initiative, with numerous jetties located along the route.

These 10.1 kilometers of newly reconstructed roads connect the Lagos Badagry Expressway’s rail component to the Inland Waterways terminal, with vital connections to both residential and commercial areas.

Irede Road, which spans 2.20 kilometers off the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, ends at the Irede Jetty, providing water transportation access to riverine communities such as Ibasa, Ibeshe, Ilashe, and Imoore in Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area.

Mumuni Adio Road serves as a key route to and from the Tank Farms and Industries in Ijegun Egba, a prominent petroleum products depot in the area. Originally built about 40 years ago as a semi-urban road, it now supports important industrial access.

Navy Town Road provides a route to the Ijegun Imoren Jetty and also connects the Old Ojo Road to the Central Bank Estate, Training School, and Navy Town.

Old Ojo Road, which was first constructed in the early 1960s, was originally a single-lane road with deteriorating pavement, an average width of 10 meters, and ineffective drainage systems.

Recognizing the strategic economic importance of these roads, Governor Sanwo-Olu and Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat authorized their rehabilitation and upgrading to a standard that will endure over time.

Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration remains committed to upgrading outdated roads and constructing new ones, as part of his promise to continually improve the infrastructure and quality of life for Lagosians.
